No One EVER Deserves ABUSE – Why We NEED To Question Any Narrative To The Contrary

In our world today, there are still WAY too many times and places where abuse and harm are being justified.

This is happening on a societal level - in terms of how we are being taught things ‘should’ look around how we work, how we interact with one another, how we are treated by the systems that are meant to support and care for us - and on individual and personal levels.

We still live in a world where those who are being harmed in some way are often blamed for their circumstances and told that if they just took more responsibility for themselves that they could fix whatever’s wrong and find a way to be happy.

So much of what we perceive to be ‘normal’ is actually pretty toxic in our world today - and this is why I wanted to talk about this subject today.

I feel it’s really important that we come to a place as a culture where we are justifying abuse less and less, and making room for healthy ways of being more and more.

This is going to require that we really investigate into our thinking around what is and isn’t harmful, what it means to ‘take responsibility’ for ourselves and assessing where our power actually lies in terms of making our own lives better, and where systems need to change.

There’s no black and white answer for where we need to take responsibility for our pain and where we need to say what happened to us or is happening to us isn’t our fault and systems or others need to change - and that’s why we need to talk about this.

There’s nuance here - and we need to find that appropriate balance if we’re going to create a better world.
