Hello again my friend 🙂
In the last post, I brought to light how easy it is to get into a state of resisting the path towards where you want to go, because the path itself does not look like the end goal. You will listen to someone tell you their story of how they got to where they are, and instead of looking at what they present as then showing you the steps they took - rather than looking at their story as a road map - you look at all the phases in between where they were and where they ended up as simply obstacles and mistakes. Mistakes you certainly do not want to emulate - so you stop yourself from doing what they DID and try to get yourself to do only what they are doing NOW.
Today, I want to continue on with this theme, and help you to get to a place where you can recognize when you are trying to skip over exactly what has been placed in your life to get you where you want to go, and how to engage in your path in a meaningful way.
Getting To That Mountain Top
Think of it this way: Say you want to get from the bottom of a mountain to the summit.
1. You would never expect yourself to levitate from the bottom of a mountain up to the top. You would expect and assume that you would need to climb from the bottom up to the top. That you would need to take the steps in between the bottom and the top, in order to reach the summit.
2. You would also not expect that by sitting and listening to someone tell you about their experience at the top of the mountain, that you yourself would be transported there. You would not believe that by knowing what it is like to be at the top of the mountain that you now have been there. Nor would you expect that by simply hearing about what it is like at the top, that you now know how to get there. You would just have a nice story about someones experience on the top of the mountain - which at best may inspire you to do what you need to do to get yourself to the top of that mountain.
3. You would not expect that acting like the person did when they were on the mountain top would magically transport you to the top of the mountain. If the person who had been to the top of the mountain took some photos, sipped some water, paced around, and planted a flag - you would not expect that standing at the bottom of the mountain taking pictures, sipping water and flag planting would be all it took to get you to the summit. The experience at the top is not something you can emulate at the bottom and expect to actually be having the mountain top experience.
4. Lastly, if you wanted to get to the top of the mountain, and someone who had previously climbed that mountain came to you with a map, with a path to follow, you would not reject that path saying "none of those steps you are outlining on the map are the top, so this path is wrong." You would not say "this first step, or this traverse over a river, or this path through a patch of trees is not the top, and so all those steps are wrong and I am just going to sit here until you tell me how to be at the top."
But you see, this is EXACTLY what most of us are doing on our self improvement/personal growth paths.
We want to be at the top, and we don't trust any of the steps in between.
I have said it before, and I will say it again -
The fastest way to get to where you want to be, is to allow yourself to fully be where you are.
The steps that whomever you are listening to took to get to their mountain top were the exact steps that enabled them to get there, and to maintain their position there. The stories they tell you about what happened on their journey are not stories of 'mistakes' that you should avoid. Those are stories of the training they did. Those are the stories that matter most to you, if you are not yet where they are.
It really should not matter to you what it is like for them at the end place. Because you already have a pretty good idea of what it is like there - that is why you are desiring to be up there in the first place. The only real benefit of listening to people tell you what it is like to be where you want to be, is that those stories can provide you with the motivation you may need to push through the challenges you are going to face on your own journey.
They cannot really help you take the journey. They can provide tools to use, a window into the stages you will most likely pass through, inspiration for those tough days. They can help you see that the journey will be worth it - but that is about it.
Why You Need To Be Here Now, And Take The Next Step For YOU
All of this is a very long winded way of saying - the reason the people you admire are where they are, is because they faced what life was offering them head on. They did each step of their journey. They did not try to jump ahead (and if they did, they realized that was not going to work.) They passed through all the phases of healing, all the phases of growth, all the phases of the journey.
They let life offer them exactly what they needed to learn in the moment, learned it, and then transcended that step and moved onto the next one. They took the path.
None of the steps they took were the ultimate destination - none of the phases were the end goal - but they were all integral for them to know what they needed to know, to heal what they needed to heal and to figure out what they needed to figure out so that they could get to the mountain top and stay there.
The point here is this: Whatever is in your life right now, is the next most appropriate thing for you to face, for you to tackle, for you to learn from, on your journey to where you want to be.
This. Right here. Right now. Whatever step feels most appropriate and doable for you is the step.
If you are trying to be somewhere you are not - to act or behave or think in a way that you cannot sustain without great effort - then that is not the step for you right now.
If you are trying to be like a mountain topper - and considering yourself a failure for not being able to be like them, or if you are rejecting what is here in front of your face in your reality for you to learn right now - you are essentially making it IMPOSSIBLE for yourself to ever get to where you want to be.
Because the universe hears you.
When you say you want something, it delivers EXACTLY what you need, in your current physical reality, in order to progress towards that. You are being faced, right now, with exactly what you need to face next on your road to your ultimate destination.
You will know what the step is, because it will be the most obvious thing in your 3D reality.
It won't be something you heard from a spiritual teacher on youtube. Or a diet guru. Or a marketing expert.
It will be the thing right in front of your face.
That is what you need to deal with. This next step for you is the fastest way to where you want to go.
The trick is to allow yourself to let go of the idea that you must be at your end goal rightnow, or that you must avoid all steps that are not the end goal, to allow yourself to stop pushing and striving towards where you think you 'should' be, or towards where you really really really want to be.
To relax your need for forward momentum, and to embrace what life is offering you in this moment.
So What Is The Point?
So, why does all this matter? Why does being where you are now, and facing what is mean so much?
The bottom line is, it is very likely that if you do a little digging you will discover that the reason you want to be this shiny, sparkly, amazing version of yourself is because you believe that if you get there, you will be happy.
Perhaps there is a part of you that believes when you become this shiny version of yourself, that all your struggles, pain, shame, and other negative experiences will go away. That they will stop happening. That you will float to a magical space where you are blissed out and blessed out at all times.
Again, there is absolutly nothing wrong with this. Of course we all want to be happy. We all want to feel supported and loved by life. We all want to feel safe.
What I want to let you know is this - at the end of the self improvement road, at the end of the spirituality road, you will not find yourself at a magical place where life stops happening.
You are still going to get flat tires, yelled at by bosses, disappointed by friends and stubbed toes. You will still have shitty days.
The only difference is, when you are at this place you want to be, it just wont FEEL so terrible.
The only thing that will change, is you will lose your resistance to what is, and thus will be able to mine what is for all the gifts. Because all of life is blessing you, everything that shows up for you is taking you to your next spiritual evolution. Everything life offers you is drawing you deeper to yourself, deeper to your truth, deeper to your Divinity.
If you allow yourself o be with what is now, if you allow your path to unfold naturally, by the time you get where you want to go, you will have SO MUCH evidence that you can trust life. And this is the real gold in any journey. The larger lesson of learning how to go with what is, rather than resisting life.
All that happens when you get to the top of the mountain is that you see that life is on your side. All the time. The good and the shit all feels the same - pertinent and exactly right.
So there is no race. Life is not going to stop being life at any point.
Where you want to go is going to happen. Life is already pulling you there, with everything that is being presented to you.
Which is why it is so valuable to learn to be here now.
This is where all the magic is. Not up ahead. Not when you are better, fitter, faster, leaner, stronger, kinder, more spiritual.
When you are there, your worth, value and importance won't change at all. Your importance here, your ability to do what you want, your ability to be love - it will all be the same.
Your worth and value are fundamental to your being. You are already fully valuable, fully worthy, fully important.
So there is no where to go really.
There is nothing to get.
There is nothing to improve.
Just a journey to take.
One where each step is just as valuable and important as any other.
So do this one. The next one will take care of itself. And so will the one after that, and after that, and after that.
There is no where to go.
So be here.
