In the self love/spirituality/personal growth world, there is a LOT of talk about how to process the feeling that we aren't living up to the expectations of OTHER people.
We talk a lot about learning to love who we are even when this means we're going to disapoint caregivers, we're not going to be seen or understood by our friends, we're going to be judged by society and we're going to have to learn how to accept ourselves and express ourselves even without the acceptance of others.
This is really important work to do, and it's work I highly suggest everyone does.
With that, we also need to acknowledge what is sometimes a big elephant in the room - what happens when we feel like we aren't living up to our OWN expectations?
How do we process the reality that sometimes accepting who we are means accepting that we aren't who WE wanted to be? We aren't going to live the lives WE wanted to live?
How do we navigate learning to love ourselves when we are in a situation where embracing our truth means embracing limitations, embracing lack of capacity, embracing that we will never be who we planned on being?
How do we find self love when at the end of the day, we feel disappointed by the person we are discovering ourselves to be - even if we knew that everyone ELSE approved of and loved us?
How do we grieve the fact that we may never be able to be/do/have/experience the things we wanted to?
This is a big part of our self love work, and it something that isn't talked about nearly enough.
Not all of our expectations of self come from the outside, and learning to love who we are when we aren't who WE wanted to be is a massive hurdle.
So let's talk about it today and see if we can find some space of love and healing.
