Stop Pushing Through Part 2

Welcome back!

Yesterday we talked about why pushing through, living on actions that you feel you must do but do not want to do is a symptom of not fully understanding your value and your worth.

We outlined how the main reasons you would have to 'push through' things in your life, is when you are doing things out of a desire to define and find your value and worth - or out of fear. We discussed that when you truly see yourself as you are, at your core, you will understand that you are fully, totally and completely valuable and that nothing can change that.

you are valuable

You also now understand that you are a creator and that you are here to create. You understand that your feelings of excitement are your indicators that you are doing the things that are in alignment with you, and who you are. You will see that you can live your whole life doing only inspired actions and end up feeling totally amazing and fulfilled.

If you missed it, you can read the whole post here

Today I want to give you five tools to help you tune back into the internal guidance system that is already in place within you, that will lead you back to the life you are meant to live.

The idea is to give yourself space and time to connect back in with you. You do not need anyone to tell you what your right life looks like. If you can just trust me for a moment, I want to tell you that your right life, the one where you are excited to get up and do what you do each and every day, is only something you can create.

You are the only one with the power to design your right life.It is by doing more of the things that make you feel excited that you will lead you right into your preferred life.

For most people, this is a step by step process. Which means you do not have to totally change your whole life tonight - you do not have to figure out what you want and what excites you today - you do not have to do much of anything right now. This is a step by step process.

Here are five tools you can start to use today to help you transition into what it is you are here to do. These tools are designed to help you pause and connect in with yourself - which is where all your answers lie. You just need to re-connect with who you are and what you love. Which is actually pretty easily done 🙂 You simply need to open the door. Here is how.

1. Add More Rest

You do not have to quit your job. You do not have to drop out of school. You do not have to quit training for 100 hours a day at the gym. In fact, at first making any huge sweeping changes may feel too overwhelming. The first step I recommend in this equation is just to add more rest to your day. Sneak in a 15 minute nap. Add in a 30 minute sleep in. Carve out 5-10 minutes a day to read a light book or play a crossword puzzle. These moments of battery re-charging in the midst of all that you are doing are essential.

2. Add Play

Do something fun. Schedule in 5-60 minutes of time at least 3 days a week (more than three days is better) to do an activity that brings you joy. This feeling of joy you connect with when you play is the exact same feeling - and vibration - that you create when you are lined up with your purpose and passion. Play is literally the fastest way to connect you to the feeling state of your purpose. The more time you spend in this state, in this vibrational place, the closer and closer you will come to lining up with your best life. You may find that as you play you get ideas, you get inspirations, you get creative insights - and that is because you are in a place to receive them! Play is not just for children. Adults need it even more than kids do!

3. Add Quite Contemplation Time

quiet time

Make time to connect and tune in with yourself. Let all distractions drop away - at least for 15-20 minutes a day. If you are new to this, you can start with 2-5 minutes and work your way up. You do not need to 'meditate' in any traditional sense. Which means you do not need to sit in a cross legged posture on the floor with your eyes closed. All that needs to happen here is you taking some time out of your day just for you, where you sit quietly with yourself.

  • You can lie on your bed (just try not to fall asleep) and simply watch your breath.
  • You can scan your body - taking not of how you feel.
  • You can practice some guided imagery meditations.
  • You can even do some of the exercises in my book!

The purpose of this is to help you to disconnect with all the other 'voices' in your life - like your boss, your mom, your friends, your children, your spouse, and so on that are all offering you their opinions of who you are and what you should be doing. Every time you do this, you forge a stronger connection with your opinions. You build a stronger bridge between your mind and your heart - your mind and your inner guidance system. At first, it may not feel like much is happening, but as you practice, as you stick with it you will be lead in the direction of your purpose.

4. Start Following Your Feelings

Again, I do not want you to get overwhelmed with this point thinking that you now have to only do the things you want and totally quit doing everything you don't like doing. I am simply going to propose that you practice tuning in with your self and your feelings before you say yes or no to any requests made in your life. Instead of having a knee jerk reaction where you always say yes to those around you - begin practicing taking a pause.

Start by simply letting people know that you are going to take a moment to think about their request before you answer them, and that you will get back to them within the hour with your answer.

Giving people a time generally makes them feel more comfortable, and this gives you some breathing room to tune into your own feelings. Even if you feel like you know what your answer is going to be right away, still take this time to breath and check in. From there, simply sit with your eyes closed and imagine yourself saying yes to the request being made. Notice how you feel. Notice if your stomach contracts. If your shoulders tighten or open. Notice if your brown furrows or relaxes. Then imagine yourself saying no to the request and again take note of how your body reacts. Your body is your most trustworthy tool for leading you in the right direction. From there you can choose if you are going to follow your bodies guidance or not. Simply taking the time to check in is all you really need to do for this step.

5. Make A List

Finally, I am going to invite you to create a list, either in the morning or before you go to bed, of things that make you feel good when you think about them. A simple gratitude list is often not enough, because it is easy to arbitrarily rattle off things you think you are grateful for without ever actually feeling grateful. The feeling is what we are going for here.

list

So again, I want you to tune into things that make you feel good when you think about them. This could be ice cream. This could be your dog. This could be Saturday mornings with a hot cup of tea looking out the window onto a rainy city. Whatever it is for you, just make a list and as you make your list, really imagine as though you are experiencing this things that you love right here, right now. Practice getting yourself into the feeling state of joy. Just like engaging in play this is going to help you tune your awareness so that you will better be able to recognize when you are feeling good and when you are feeling off - and the faster you notice this feeling the more power you have to steer yourself in a different direction. Make a list as long as you can - setting aside at least 5 minutes a day to do this.

From here, if you do all of these things on a regular/daily basis, you will start to steer your life in the direction of joy. In the direction of YOUR unique expression of joy.

Just don't force it 😉
