Stop Pushing Through Part 1

Hi 🙂

What if I told you I did not believe in pushing through?

What if I told you that struggling, continuing to dig in and force your way through when things get hard and white knuckling your way to a goal is something you may be best served to stop doing forever?

What if I told you there was literally no need to ever struggle, push through, or keep going when things got really hard and you wanted to stop?

Well, that is exactly what I am here to tell you.

You see, I firmly believe that the idea of 'pushing through' has gotten us no where. I actually believe the concept has pushed us backwards - farther from ourselves, our truths and from what we came here to do.

At your core, you have interests, passions and things you love to do. This is an essential part of every humans nature. That 'excited' feeling you experience when you are genuinely inspired to do something is you aligning with yourself. It is you aligning with what you are here to do. That feeling is a guidepost for you that you are on the right path.

When you are fully living in alignment with who you are, life is exciting. You have energy to do the things you do in the day. You are inspired. There will of course be days when you are not as energetic, and on those days you will, and should rest. There is a flow to an inspired life - and it is this flow that you all set out to live in when you came here.

When you get off of our authentic path, that is when life becomes hard. When you find yourself having to use will power to get through your day or your activities, chances are you have veered off in a direction not authentic to you. Those unpleasant feelings you have when you are doing something you don't want to do are also guideposts for you. They are there to remind you that this is not what best serves you.

I used to think that if I were to stop pushing myself, if I were really to give myself permission to do only the things I wanted to do, that I would do nothing. I believed that I would sit on the couch and eat chips and watch T.V all day. I have a sneaking suspicion that you may have the same fear. You may be so scared to let yourself off the hook for fear that you will become someone who contributes nothing to society, who lives in your parents basement and eats all their groceries.

all day couch

This may be so. For a little while. But if you were truly to allow yourself to do these things - to stop forcing and just do what felt good - chances are good that at some point sitting around eating wouldn't actually feel very good any more. At first it would because you are most likely pretty worn out from pushing yourself so hard. There is a good chance that taking some time to rest and recover would be a necessary step in order to re-fuel your fire.

When you are spending so much of your energetic stores on pushing yourself to do all the things you don't want to do, you are creating less and less energy to do the things that actually align with you.

This is why you would at first feel like doing nothing. You need to rest and recuperate. Eventually you would feel like doing something. However after you rest, it would be a whole different kind of motivation that kickstarts you into action.

It is my belief that at its root, 'pushing through' comes from a belief that your worth comes from what you do. Thus, you must exert effort in order to be valuable, in order to be valued.

You are believing that who you are, your value is tied to what you do. Now I totally understand that this is something that society tells you on a daily basis. We are driven by images and tag lines that encourage us to go beyond our limits, never give up, always strive for more - but just because someone tells you something does not make it true.

This belief that what you do and who you are are linked is rooted in fear. A fear that perhaps you are not good enough as you are. A fear that you must earn your place here on earth.

The real truth?

You are fully valuable just as you are, right here and right now. You could absolutely sit on the couch all day every day for the rest of your life watching trashy t.v and eating chips and you would still be perfect, whole, deserving of love, deserving of money, deserving of food, and everything else you want. What you do has nothing to do with who you are, and what you deserve. Your worth is inherent and nothing and no one can change that.

The thing is, sitting on the couch all day watching t.v and eating wont make you HAPPY. It wont satisfy you.

This is because you came here to create. You are a creator. Each and every person on this earth has something that they are passionate about. Something they would be excited to get up and do every day. It is this passion - this desire to feel connected to who you are that is meant to be the driving force behind your actions.

If you were to fully understand that what you do has nothing to do with your worth, the first thing that would happen is the pressure to perform would lift. You would see that this is an abundant universe that is designed to support you. There is enough. You will always have enough.

The second thing that would happen is you would realize that you have many talents, skills, passions, and creative ideas you wish to express. You will find that you do have an inner motivation that is there to lead and guide you into creating your most authentic life.

This is the real truth about pushing through. All it does is drive you further and further away from what it is that you are naturally motivated to do. It drains your stores, keeps you distracted, makes you tired and serves to disconnect you with everything that makes you authentically you.

So how do you stop pushing?

How do you transition into what you what to do?

How do you find what excites you?

Tomorrow we are going to go through 5 tools you can use to help you connect back in with who you are, and what you have planned for yourself in this life. For today, just sit and know that there is nothing for you to become, nothing for you to improve, nothing you must be. You are perfect, whole and valuable just as you are.
