Living A Healthy Life Is HARD – You’re Not Just Sucking At It

Living a healthy life - a life where we take care of our bodies, have fulfilling relationships, where we do work that is meaningful and that pays the bills, where we have time to tend to our mental/emotional state, where we feel 'balanced' in our resting, working and playing, where we engage in the spiritual activities that fill us and where we have hobbies and things we do for enjoyment - it's an idyllic fantasy pumped out by the health/wellness world.

It's something that many of us who are trying to live a 'good life' strive to achieve - and that many of us find super challenging to actually experience.

As humans, we naturally want to feel good - and it makes sense that all of the above things CAN and often DO improve our life experience - AND - at the same time we live in a world where there's a wellness culture that tells us that if we AREN'T living these productive, fulfilling, 'balanced' lives that we're somehow FAILING at life.

Many of us walk around having our coping mechanisms, our self sabotaging behaviors, having the areas of life where we simply LACK what we need for health/balance and where we don't have the ability to be consistent with all the habits that are required to achieve a life of wellness thinking that EVERYONE ELSE is succeeding in being healthy and balanced and that WE are the only ones who are struggling to 'keep it all together.'

Which makes us susceptible to buying more self help materials, engaging in more spirituality, thinking that we must have some fatal flaw that must be fixed due to the fact that we aren't able to 'live well' the way we SHOULD be and the way we WANT to be.

And the wellness industry is capitalizing on this.

The truth is, living a healthy life is actually really hard, and it's made extra hard via the systems we all exist in on a day to day basis.

No one seems to be talking about the systemic blocks and barriers that MOST of us have in the way of living a truly healthy life - and again most of us are living lives where we feel like guilty failures instead of realizing that what we have been taught to believe is 'wellness' may not be, and that we are not actually failing the way we think we are.

Today I want to explore why living a 'healthy' life is actually WAY harder than people want to give it credit for, why it's not actually possible for a lot of us and how we can disengage from the wellness world that is totally obfuscating the path to a healthy life, so we can find OUR enough.
