How Do We Support Ourselves When There ISN’T A Perfect Solution?

When we’re in pain, when we’re struggling, when we’re suffering and when life isn’t going how we want it to go, it’s fully normal and natural to seek solutions.

It makes total sense that in these states, all we want is to fix what’s happening so that we can feel better.

When we can’t, when solutions aren’t obvious, when what’s ‘normal’ doesn’t work for us, when the mainstream doesn’t have a solution for us, or when the things that we’ve tried to do to fix what’s happening haven’t worked, it’s again normal and natural to start looking for external help.

It’s normal for us to want to turn to self help, spirituality, the wellness industry and so on for alternative answers. It’s normal to keep pursuing solutions even when what’s conventional has failed, because we naturally don’t want to continue being in pain.

With this, we’re almost always going to find that the wellness, spirituality and self help world have a consistent message - everything has a solution. Everything CAN be fixed if we just make all the right choices, do all the right things, take enough responsibility and act in the ways we’re supposed to act.

Many of us are going to find that in our quest to feel better, we end up in a place where the longer we stay in pain, the more we end up feeling like WE are failing, like we’re doing something wrong or like we’re bad on some level - because we’re being constantly fed the message that there IS a solution and that we CAN find perfection - and that if we aren’t this means WE are doing something wrong.

This is because for many, admitting that there are situations where there AREN’T perfect solutions means too much. It means losing business. It means having to face harsh realities. It means having to admit that what is being sold can’t and won’t work for everyone. It means having to figure out TRUE tools of support for people that are deeply struggling and it means looking at our vulnerability in a way that our society has conditioned us NEVER to look at.

But this is exactly what I want to look at today.

What do we do in life when there is no perfect solution? When we can’t make our pain go away? When there’s no full answer? What do we do for ourselves when perfect doesn’t exist?

That’s what we’re going to explore today.
