Monday Musings ~ Why I Love Me A Fallen Guru: Part One

I love me a good guru.

Even more, I love me a good FALLEN guru - but not for the reasons you may think.

Let me explain.

First things first - to me, a Guru is: someone who is shining a light on an expanded version of human potential. Someone who is showing us that more is possible for us than we may have previously considered. You can also call them teachers, trainers, professionals, high performers or any other title you wish.

Gurus demonstrate:

  • Higher levels of love and compassion.
  • Higher levels of intimacy and self acceptance.
  • Higher levels of service and grace.
  • Higher levels of athleticism.
  • Higher levels of health and vitality.
  • Higher levels of awareness and consciousness.
  • Higher levels of thinking and invention.
  • Higher levels of creativity.

Gurus offer SO MUCH to this world.

Again, they show us new levels of what is possible.

In this, a Guru is one who inspires YOU to reach within yourself for these higher states of being, just as they themselves are demonstrating or teaching.

The first thing to understand about a Guru is this: When the offering of a Guru calls to you, it is because the expanded potential they are demonstrating, is currently lying dormant within you.

They resonate with you, because they are an EXPANDED aspect of YOU.

They are demonstrating a potential that you have. A potential that is absolutly possible for you. That is probable for you.

They call to you, because they are you.

Now, you may not know exactly which element of this guru you are loving is the element that is calling to you – it may not be readily clear what they are carrying, or vibrating, that is serving as a mirror for you into your own soul. It could be that their message or methods do not interest you, but some other aspect of their personhood does.

A Guru Serves As A Mirror For You

This is another rather stunning element of the guru-student relationship. You are called to their work for a reason, because their work is going to reveal something to you, about you. It may not be that you are here to be what they are preaching or teaching, or even that you are to be anything like them at all, but just know that when you are attracted to any kind of teacher or Guru, that there is a mirror there for you.

They represent some part of your potential. This is one of – if not the most – powerful and positive examples of mirroring that exists for us on the planet. It is most likely the highest, most exalted form of mirroring there is.

The Movement Towards Self Guru-ship

Now, for the last while, there has been a huge movement towards being ones own guru - to stop looking to others to expand your ideals of potential but to instead look for this IN-spiriation from within. Which I am all for! But lets remember, the people who are teaching this principal are also gurus in their own right 😉

It is in this movement, that I feel we have to most potential for the highest level of growth available:

When you use the mirror of others to catalyze a journey that you take personal responsibility for.

When you use the inspiration, the reflection, the example of potential the Guru demonstrates or teaches, and you OWN that shit.

You take it to heart.

You allow yourself not to stand there in reverence of them, as though they are some magical being that has nothing to do with who and what you are, but instead stand in reverence for the message or way of being that resonates with you, which by very definition is a reflection of something within you.

When you stand up and say “I resonate with this Guru or teacher because they are showing me an aspect of myself that wants to grow and expand.”

When you bridge the gap between ‘them’ and ‘you’ in your mind, so as to allow yourself to FEEL that you are them and that they are you, so whatever they demonstrate is not only possible for you, but probable.

When you do this, whatever the teaching is, whatever the demonstration is, it is going to be SO MUCH MORE powerful for you, because you will no longer be a spectator, you will be participating in the message – and this is where the value of the message lies.

Simply hearing something or watching someone be magical is not all that helpful. This is akin to watching a super hero movie. It is entertainment at best. When you are able to really own the idea that what inspires you is already a part of you, and you allow yourself to own the message as true for you, then you are ripe for the message actually having the capacity to transform you.

Learn from the Gurus what is lying dormant within you, and then become one who owns the messages that resonate with you.

Do not be a student who is listening, but be a master who is being shown their own potential, so that they can then go out and journey towards expressing that potential.

Own the message as a part of yourself.

Mm. Gurus.

Next week I will share why the Fallen Guru is such a potent teacher, and how you can become one who can harness the giftsings and teachings of a fallen Guru. For now, lets bless all those who call us into our light!
