Embracing The Paradox Of Fundamental Innocence And Causing Harm

Hello!

I've talked at LENGTH on this channel about how we are all fundamentally innocent.

About the reality that none of us are bad in our core - but rather we are all doing the best we can with what we know, attempting to get our needs met, to have pleasure and safety in the ways that make sense to our nervous system and how we were trained we had to be.

We've talked a LOT about finding the innocence in ourselves, in our behaviors, in the ways we tend to do things - because the reality is none of us are hurting ourselves or others because we WANT to hurt ourselves or others - again we are doing what we are in an attempt to make and keep ourselves safe, connected and able to express how we want to express.

Now, this can lead to some confusion. Especially when it comes to our relationships with others.

If we are to believe that no one and nothing is fundamentally 'bad' - does this then mean that truly abusive, harmful or toxic behaviors don't exist?

Does this mean that we have to say that anything that harms us or others is 'ok' because at it's core it's innocent?

Does this mean that we have to forgive anyone who is causing us harm?

Does this mean that there ISN'T harm because it's all innocent and ok?

Let's unpack all of this today.

Because the reality is, there's a paradox here that is SUPER important. There are also phases of this understanding that need to be honored in every situation - and by trying to skip phases we only end up harming ourselves.

Let's talk today about why the root of innocence in our ways of being doesn't erase harm, why it doesn't mean we should just 'accept' how things are and why not rushing to this phase of understanding/forgiveness of those who harm us is REALLY IMPORTANT for healing.
