Structure and routine is REALLY hard for a lot of us.
Many of us really struggle to create a workable way of life where we’re supporting ourselves and moving towards our goals without taking on too much and winding up overwhelmed and in a state where we continually ‘fall off track.’
Many of us completely understand the benefits of developing a morning routine, of having daily habits around food and nourishment, creating structure in our work and how we relate to our loved ones - but when it actually comes time to practice these routines we find ourselves being able to do it for a day or a week - only to lose momentum and have to start all over again.
Many of us truly believe that if we could just get ourselves to ‘be on track’ all the time, our lives would be SO much better and we truly believe that it’s our lack of willpower or discipline that’s causing us our pain in life.
Many of us struggle to find the balance between having ENOUGH structure that we are supporting ourselves, without going too far in the other direction where it feels like our routines take over our lives and stop us from being able to be in the moment.
Many of us feel like we don’t know how to create a doable routine - but rather are swinging between having what is too much structure for us to easily maintain, and not enough structure which leads us to a place of feeling like we’re floundering in life.
We often compare ourselves to others who seem to have it all together all the time, and think that there must be something wrong with us that we can’t do that - that we continually start and stop working out, eating healthy, working towards our goal of starting a side job or improving our skills in our current career and so on.
So what do we do with this?
How do we find a routine that works, that’s enough structure, without going too far the other way where we become overly rigid OR where we push ourselves into a kind of self rebellion where we end up with NO routine because the structure we had was too much?
That’s what we’re going to explore today.
