Being misunderstood.
Being told that we aren’t good, that we are shameful, that we are unintelligent, that we are harmful or otherwise that how we are living or what we are doing is bad.
Feeling that subtle withdrawal of people knowing that they are thinking in their minds that we aren’t worth their time or that we are beneath them in some way.
These are all deeply painful experiences and no matter how centered you are in yourself and your way of life, it can be really challenging to navigate these things.
The truth is, we have all been conditioned, at least on some level, to seek the approval of others and to feel a sense of unsafety/unease/activation when we know we are being misunderstood or when we are being seen as bad, wrong, evil and harmful.
When we are being looked at as unintelligent, as wrong in our assessment of our own reality, as not trying hard enough, as weak or like our suffering is our fault.
It’s also painful to realize that there’s literally no way of avoiding this happening to us from time to time.
So how do we navigate this when it happens? How do we handle being misunderstood in a way where we can’t explain? How do we handle being seen as bad, wrong, unintelligent, evil or misinformed when we know we aren’t? How do we get over the deep fear and the deep pain that comes with being disapproved of?
That is what we are going to explore today together.
Because the reality is, this is a really tough thing to go through mentally and emotionally, but there are practical steps we CAN take that will help make the whole thing much more manageable.
