Learning to connect with your body, to listen to what it needs and what it is asking you for is a step by step process.
Your body is actually designed to thrive. It is designed to keep you healthy and strong so that you can do all that you are here to do in the world.
Think of it this way:
Your body is supposed to be like the most souped up, high class luxury car that can also fly and float on water. It is meant to take you every where that you need to go with ease and grace.
That is why you want to learn to listen to it when it talks to you. The truth is that when you are connected to your body, to what it is asking you for you don't need a nutritionist or a personal trainer or a private yoga teacher. You will know what to feed it because it will tell you.
I know that at this moment you may feel like what your body is asking you for is chips, pop, popped corn, and other things that do not make you feel like the super high class luxury vehicle. I know. I understand. I was there too for a really long time.
What I discovered is, the key to establishing trust with your body, is learning to really feel how you feel when you eat food. Instead of attaching any guilt or shame or blame to your food choices, instead just notice. Notice how you feel when you eat an apple vs. eating a bag of chips. Notice what situations make you feel like eating a whole bucket of ice cream, and which make you feel like a big salad will feel best.
Take note of these things. Start to notice your own patterns.
I promise, your body is not against you.
You are just a little disconnected from it. This is fixable. This is figure-out-able. Just start by noticing.
Here is a simple exercise that you can do that will help cultivate some awareness and connection between you and your body. In your journal make a little chart for yourself. like this:
Todays Cravings How I felt after eating What lead to my craving How I want to feel
The point is just to notice. Awareness brings light, and in the light you can move forward 🙂
Now, for the Juice!
One of the things my body has been asking me for lately is juice! Green juice. And lots of it. I thought perhaps you would be interested in giving my green juice a try and seeing if it is something your body is asking you for too!
Ali's Super duper green juice:
Step 1: Gather your ingredients:
5 stalks of celery
1 bunch of parsley
1 bunch of cilantro
2 lemons, no peels
1 lime, no peel
1 inch piece aloe vera plant (you can skip this if you can't find it)
2 inch piece ginger root
Anything else you want!
Step two: Run all your awesome ingredients through a juicer. If you do not have a juicer you can simply blend all of these ingredients in a blender, and strain it through a fine sieve, nut milk bag or cheese cloth.
Step 3: Strain your juice to make sure there are not fibres left in it. My Hurom Slow Juicer is AWESOME, but I do have to strain my juice after using it, otherwise there will still be a tonne of pulp left in it:
Step 4: Marvel at your so pretty green juice:
Step 5: Enjoy that shizzzz:
If you are new to juicing, you can alter this recipe to make it a little less intense 🙂 Try reducing the herbs, adding some fennel, green apple, carrot, beet or more cucumber and celery. Remember the point is to listen to YOUR body and give it what it needs.
How do you practice listening to your body? Do you feel connected to disconnected? I would love to hear from you!
