Hello Friend!
Many of us (perhaps yourself included) have been through periods in our lives where things were really, really hard.
Where we weren't getting our needs met, where we were being traumatized, where we were trapped in circumstances that were incredibly painful. Where we were ill, didn't have the resources or access to live that lives we wanted to live, where we were being held back by those around us and so on.
With this, many of us have gone through a transformation phase.
We were able to see a future we hadn't lived yet. Able to muster hope for a better future that we combined with action steps that got us there. We were able to get help, support and therapy.
We were able to tap into the capacity to be totally present in our lives - to be taking one step at a time, putting one foot in front of the other, never allowing anything to break us down or hold us back. We were able to focus SO MUCH on the future we were creating for ourselves that for a while, it seemed like a lot of our pain went away. We were able to get to an emotional place of FEELING our future state, feeling our future joy, feeling our future happiness so much so that it almost felt like we got there before we got there.
Then, one day, we realized we WERE there. That life wasn't so bad anymore. That we had transcended and worked through a lot. We healed. We created a life that is radically different from where we came from.
We got OUT.
Then, as we started to settle into the newness of a safer reality, better, more supportive reality - instead of feeling peace and joy, all of a sudden we felt FEAR. Existential dread. Panic. Pain we couldn't explain. A deep sense of uneasiness. We started to re-experience our traumatizing moments as though they were happening now. We found that we weren't able to actually FEEL safe in our new environments but rather were CONSTANTLY on alert for the other shoe to drop, waiting for the next terrible thing to happen. We started to question if we had lost our spirituality, that magic that allowed us to focus on the present and the future and to create joy in that. We're starting to wonder if maybe we did something wrong, or are now doing something wrong.
If this is you, today's video is for you.
I'm going to address the reasons why many of us are going to fall 'back' into trauma, stress and pain when we get to a safe place in our lives. Why we aren't actually going to FEEL safe for the first while as we settle into our new reality, and why THIS phase is all about processing the past - and why doing so is so important.
Your past is coming back for a reason - and it's not because you've lost your presence skills. Let's dive in to figure out what's REALLY going on, so we can work through this.
